Kalutskikh Update

Our heroes, the Russian Kalutskikh brothers, seem to be one of the most popular search terms which leads people to this blog. As contortionists at the early ages of about 7 and 8 years on a Russian talent show, they have matured into exceptional equilibrists, an example to all of us in the fitness and acrobatic trade.

They seem to have launched a new website, http://kalutskih.com (the spelling here is correct – it obviously loses something in translation from the Cyrillic alphabet!) which I have added to the links list bottom right of this page. This is allegedly a dual Russian / English site, but the English language at present seems to be restricted to the page titles.

The new site is, like their old Russian-language one, shared with their friends Steelkast who perform with swords, nails, glass and stuff. Often they perform together, as here with the classic ‘knife drop, the act which recently got my son Leo into a spot of bother!

The site also gives access to a large number of videos on YouTube, including one covering (very briefly) my previous post ‘Kalutskikh’s on the Rocks’ with a bit of base jumping… at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Rn9s7MmxIc …as well as a tranch of training videos (weights and bodyweight exercises, ‘Smart Body’, to achieve some of their feats) which you can find by entering ‘BroKalutskih’ into the YouTube search box. Subscribing is recommended!

Echoes of the former contortionist days in this picture – still got most of the flexibility! And just look at the muscles at work…

Well done Kalutskikhs! If only we were half as good as that! Long may you continue to amaze us..

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
