The Perfect Day (5) 8pm…

(continued from four previous posts: start here!)

So, we’ve done our shift at the gymnastic centre, had a light meal, and now joined up with the rest of our mates at Man.Power, Chad’s amazing private gym. There’s loads of resistance machines, wrestling mats including an oil pit and a wet pit, and a mix of guys (and the odd ‘honorary boy’, aka girl) all doing their thing, which might include all of the above, tyro body-building (not us), challenging endurance on nails and glass and so on, and (in our case) some more acrobatic training.

Often, when you’re really pushing the envelope, and struggling for some new record with the weights, or striving to extricate yourself from some impossible wrestling hold, you get a lot of encouragement from the others:

The sight of all those well-honed bodies, working together to build the best group in the State, certainly pushes us on.

Anyway, we’re on acrobatics for a while:

…and then it’s time for the new twins to be initiated into our fun and games. They’re ex-high-school wrestlers who got into weights whilst at college together. Sports college, ‘natch. And now they both secured junior coaching jobs at two different high schools in our area, one of them with our fantastic mentor (and member of Chad’s group), Andy O’Connor who was at the local high during our brief sojourn there but now works about 30 miles away as head coach in another school. He ‘spotted’ his new assistant as a suitable candidate, and was intrigued to realise that there was a twin brother nearby. They’re both straight, by the way: being gay is not a ‘given’ in this group at all, but everyone has to get on and to accept that the gay fraternity will get up to stuff from time to time to let off their steam…

…for once, everyone is wearing their club shorts because the ‘initiates’, who know it’s a bit of a hazing, will be ordered to strip first. Later, of course, we’ll all revert to our usual ‘au naturel’ anyway. They get to choose a soul mate each to go through the trials with them: the one chooses Andy as the obvious guy, and his brother selects a well-built weights guy who is himself fairly new – his first ‘re-trial’, which is something we all have to accept if chosen by a new initiate. The twins then get an impressive killer weights routine to get through with pyramid sets followed by reducing sets until they can’t even lift an empty bar, following by intense ab crunches in inverted hang, followed by having weights attached directly to their bodies… they get ‘sleepered’ by one of our wrestlers, something not often encountered in collegiate-style wrestling, and wake to find themselves  on one of our beds of nails… you get the idea. They get to trade lashes from a leather belt with their soul mate until one of them calls ‘enough’ – usually the soul mate at a nod from Chad. At the end, they are offered our probably illegal branding on their hip. No-one has ever refused. A final ‘insult’ involving them getting a bit wet (go figure) and, then, they’re in. Proud members of our exclusive band, with a commitment to put in at least ten hours a week into the pursuit of excellence, even if they don’t do it all at Chad’s.

(I don’t ordinarily post nude pix here, so we’ll make do with these two built guys enjoying their weights experience)

Training at Man.Power whenever possible is important, because the support and challenges set by your mates pushes everyone forward. But pretty much everyone works out at home too, sometimes not in the tidiest of basements:

…he could at least have moved the bags of trash before posing!

Around about 10.30pm, everyone chills out and gets to meet the new guys. Dave and I offer a demo of a special bit of our ‘act’ which involes Dave hanging from a trapeze supporting me by his teeth. We have a special device with a swivel joint and special rubber mouthpieces to bit on: I also hang from my teeth and get spun around… we can both take either position but, because of the way our moves are choreographed into the wider performance, Dave is usually ‘up there’ anyway so he naturally takes the top position. If either of us were to let go… it can be 30 feet up! But Dave and I both have absolute trust and confidence in each other and, indeed, in our other acrobatic partners. And, within Tuan Jie, in our gay loving circle too.

Which means we can all relax and enjoy doing what gay boys do. A bit more wrestling first, submission naked style and then, as we’re sweaty and horny already, no-one needs much encouragement…

…but, our perfect day is not yet done…

(to be concluded…)

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
