That was the Pain, Now for the Gain!

Chad, owner of our amazing private gym group, finally said he was no longer willing for us NOT to be graded ‘ultimate’ – the highest achievable level of recognition. That meant a suspension, and we finally did it on Sunday after putting it off for (literally) years. They even added some extra weight, attached in some private places… Now we have sore shoulders, some scars to heal, the reward of an additional painful brand to signify the success, and the rather pleasant feeling that we don’t have to do it again. Our ‘cosy foursome’ are, again, utterly united in something.

Of course, the girls, Karen and Clare, still perform suspensions as part of the fakir act. My son Leo, part of the act along with Dave’s daughter Jaymee, sees it as entirely routine that their mums hang themselves from hooks and see nothing odd in us doing it either although, being done at Chad’s Man.Power, they were on sleepover elsewhere. Leo wants to try suspending himself from his teeth, as Dave and I do in our act, and has been nagging for some time to be allowed to try. I’m not sure if near-eleven-year-old teeth are really firmly fixed enough to avoid him needed braces for years after – any dentists out there who could advise?

…if none of this makes sense, everything is explained in these, and you can help support the family business at the same time!!

Meanwhile, we need to let our scars diminish before we do any public acrobatic show, or even shuck our shirts in the gymnastics centre where we teach. And we also need, meantime, to keep up the efforts with the weights, both in our own cabin and at Chad’s where the incisions in our upper backs will not offend anyone!

So, let’s join a few lifters at work. Plenty of space and good equipment here:

No shortage of equipment here, either:

…and good results to show for the work put in. Individual bars are good, too:

…whilst this guy clearly says “YES” to whatever weight he just pressed on that bench! – and check out the arms:

It is always good to have your weights around to encourage you to work that little bit harder:

Don’t be afraid to show off…

You can always put a bit of space in an untidy garage to work:

Make sure you continue to put in the effort so that you can show off the results:

…that last guy is just, well, “WOW”!

Finally, you can lie back after the effort, and reflect on a job well done…

OK. Enough great bodies for you for one day? Nah, you can never have too much of a good thing, eh? A couple of

Bonus Boys for Wednesday

[make up for the gap in posting whilst we all lick our wounds: literally… it works! – and so do other fluids to lubricate the massage which Zach so kindly offered the rest of us to get your skin healing and back in shape. Yep, I’m talking a urea solution. Weird, eh? The Russians think it stops ageing, too… one day, I guess we’ll find out for ourselves!]. Anyway, I’m flying off at a tangent again.

(Just SQUEEZE me…!)

Another bicep to be squeezed behind that really odd tattoo… and finally, the Russians can always be relied upon to get good results from their weights and bars.

Back shortly…

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
