Der Eigene

An interesting German word which describes ‘3R‘ absolutely, and essentially describes us all. Look it up in a dictionary and you could conclude that it translates as ‘The Queer’, or the ‘Peculiar One’, but a native German-speaker will tell you that it goes deeper than that – a sense of one who is different from others – perhaps a bit special.

So. Der Eigene… ‘one who feels excluded, different…’  ‘One who enjoys the company of other men’.

Actually it was the title of the first gay magazine issued in Berlin – in 1897! A sort of guy’s equivalent of ‘Womans Own’, but nothing explicit, and on the back page one could advertise contact details…

So well done Adolf Brandt, who started it off… until the more famous Adolf and his Nazi party exterminated it in the thirties.

Cover1 ThumbCover2 ThumbA bit of a quantum leap, then, and, these current literary offerings, my own account of my ‘Eigene’ experience, finding love with Dave, exploring our common sporting interest, and getting a bit mixed up in some trouble. Some have said that they make a good read, but that’s not for me to say… e-books available (parts 1 and 2) or coming (part 3). At least we do not have to conceal our fondness for other guys quite so dramatically as they did in 1897!

We can celebrate that with some pictures:

Getting more intimate now…

and, finally, just flaked out!

Enjoy the sun, guys… and enjoy one another.

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
