“…But What It Pours”

It never rains but what it pours…

I don’t mean the weather – which remains scorchingly hot here in Wales. But after reporting four deaths in accidents at the weekend in this area, now another. At the farm 3 miles away where my good friend and writing mentor lives with his wife, she managed to call upon the services of the air ambulance on Wednesday after an argument between her fingers and a cutting machine… despite years of common-sense farming. Oh dear. Fortunately the fingertips are saved by clever surgeons, but it is a hard lesson to learn.

It never rains…

You would think that here, looking at the parched land and scorched grass. And this is the place where rain is the usual ‘Welsh sunshine’! Awoken this morning at 6am, sun beating into our cottage window, to the shrieking and laughing of son Leo, his mate Chris and Dave’s daughter Jaymee all rolling around “fighting” in the grass outside the house, chucking water on one another. Boys naked – this is surely the place to go ‘feral’ – no neighbours for several miles, brilliant climate, well protected from sunburn anyway and with brilliant tans all round. Jaymee, maybe a little more mature, tolerating them but being that little bit more demure with her bikini set. Jaymee and Leo have grown up together since born with two sets of parents who spend half their lives approaching naked anyway for training, sport and performances so everyone thinks nothing of it. And when we swim in private places, skinny dipping for all is the name of the game.

So we celebrate the freedom!

…the freedom to chuck water around (whilst we still have a supply here (that’s the other worry…)); the freedom to get close to nature and get (at least) that shirt off…

…and feeling good enough about your body to keep the shirt off in town…

Don’t always obey the rules…

read the sign

Enjoy the opportunity to work out outdoors…

Enjoy the fresh air and nature, with cool breezes caressing your body:

Enjoy the water..

…and the beach…

…in fact, I think that’s where we’ll head today. Might even show off a bit!

Now do you think he has a partner under there, or is it really shallow water?

Enjoy your summer, and share the love, however you want…

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
