ORNL To Lose 10%

It’s now official: the government lab here (which employs 4,500 people) is going to suffer a huge budget cut from USDoE in 2014 (but they don’t know how big!) – so they are encouraging more than 10% of the workforce to take a non-too-generous redundancy package!

That’s Dave’s dad definitely leaving then: he was planning to quit at Christmas anyway, with all the attendant uncertainty for the rest of us if he decides to sell the house. He and Pete (Dave’s bro) are coming to UK at Christmas too now, as well as the six of us (our ‘family’ of two kids, their mums and Dave and I). He plans to meet up again with his ex-wife (Dave’s mum, of course…) – the possibilities are getting wider, and our ‘security’ in Oak Ridge is definitely under threat.

Our friends (performing/training colleagues) are very clear: Dave and I must stay in TN! Dave and I are less sure – huge strings attach us to Oak Ridge – not least the kids – but our real home is UK and we’ve been away for more than 12 years. And my parents too are not getting any younger (and I’m an only child and have responsibilities). Maybe we just will have to find the money somehow to ‘commute’ back and forth, as we have the right of residency in UK and in US, as do the kids. Not their mum’s though… arrrgh!

How did we get into this odd position, a boy from Northampton and one from Barrow in Furness? These will reveal all (too much, some might say, about our gay life style), our performing careers as acrobats, and some adventure:

Loving the Boy: ISBN 978-1-907732-30-0

The Power of Love: ISBN 978-1-907732-41-6

Against All Odds: ISBN 978-1-908645-35-7

Whilst we ponder our future, some pictures for the devotees who come here only for a glimpse of more great young male bodies being crafted and deployed:

An oily boy now – in a staged setting – and not really sure that the oil improves his ‘cuts’ particularly:

A ’60’s’ hairstyle too – or are we just getting too old?… A boy in a natural unstaged setting next:

And now, a spectacular result set in the gym which produced it…

Anyone up for a fight?

Talking of fights, I have a tale to tell. A bit raunchy, but fun. Watch this space. Meanwhile… the opposite!

There, I commend the love the guys show, but NOT the lack of gym training in the left-hand guy. At the very least he needs a good feed. Then, one day, who knows…

tumblr_msofdtqpxD1r7ksqyo1_500At least there is SOME good news. The UK storm seems to have left our place in Wales unscathed – in fact the eye of the storm passed right over it so the huge 99mph winds were 100 miles further south. Apparently, they named the storm St. Jude, who is the patron saint of depression or something – maybe ‘lost causes’ according to one message – so to ‘celebrate’ that, here is a depressed looking lifter (albeit with nothing physical to be depressed about!):

Scott Dorn

So, as our brains whirl in circles, pondering our options for the future, here’s a different circle to ponder: can anyone spot the cable?

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
