‘When the Children are Asleep and Lights are Low…’

…Clare, the lesbian mother of my son challenges Natasha, straight but sporty and feisty wife of my old mate Colin, to a wrestling match in our barn. ‘Tash, who years ago conspired to get Dave and I wrestling naked in her presence and then joined in (see ‘The Power of Love’) immediately accepted. So, I suppose inevitably, Colin and I made another challenge on another part of the mats…. well, we used up a lot of baby oil.

Such is life in rural Wales. Well, at Cefn Derwen anyway!

A couple of wrestling pictures then (shorts on for this blog, of course…):

Colin, Natasha and their daughter have now gone home to start work tomorrow, leaving their son Ollie here to spend a week with my son Leo. Dave, Karen and Jaymee return later this evening from the north, where they spent a night in a hotel with no electricity because of the storms… don’t we just love the UK weather! We hope to share a fun week doing plenty of physical stuff of course, with our two ‘families’ plus Ollie and local friends. Ollie has permission from his parents to be taught the rudiments of the bed of nails, for a start (perfectly safe if correctly taught and supervised, before you ask…). And the boys will be wrestling, lifting (modest) weights, swimming and loads more I expect: Jaymee too will be honing her acrobatics with Leo and us. Sometimes one can combine some of these activities:

By the way, we don’t have rusty weights here, although if it rains much more, I suppose we might!

Zottman curls are a good beginner’s exercise for the arms – you just need an inclined bench and a couple of dumbbells…

Again, however basic your equipment, you can use it to good effect:

…whilst any form of basic bar strong enough to support your weight is great for exercising the upper body:

December or not, water will be involved:

Ollie will be getting into some basic acrobatics with Leo:

We may also sample the local (heated!) pool, although I doubt they’ll alow this:

The focus of the next week is FUN for all. A spirit of ‘togetherness’ for all:

Dave and I will of course be looking for a little of this, especially as he has been away:

Make a little time to catch up on your reading, maybe:

Loving the Boy: ISBN 978-1-907732-30-0

The Power of Love: ISBN 978-1-907732-41-6

Against All Odds: ISBN 978-1-908645-35-7

Wherever you intend to spend New Year, and whatever the weather, share the fun and ENJOY!

And then, after possible over-indulgence, make a resolution (did anyone ever keep a resolution?) – build yourself a body to be admired!

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
