Jack; ‘A Head with a Sore Bear’…

Jack, the youngest member of our ‘original’ acrobatic coven, had a birthday on Sunday. 15 when we first knew him and he started learning the art, he is now an old man of 29! His speciality, along with Ethan, is the free head balance

…and they do it on each other, as well, whilst the bottom man climbs stepladders and stuff like that. So he has, unsurprisingly, neck muscles of steel!

The rest of him, however, is sore. We have certain traditions when we get together, and sometimes insist on stupid ‘initiations’ and rituals. So it is when one of us has a birthday… ask the guys to give you a few lashes across the body with a leather belt, one for each year…. get crushed on our nail beds and glass, 29 different ways, 29 short wrestling bouts until you’re ‘dead’… and a few other things besides. And, of course, in our close group, if someone accepts any form of punishment, the ‘donor’ then offers to receive it themselves. So Jack isn’t the only guy feeling rather ‘sore’ this week! Not ‘a bear with a sore head’, but definitely the other way around!

Cover1 ThumbCover2 ThumbI first introduced the sort of nonsensical stuff we sometimes get up to in this book ‘Loving the Boy’ – the acrobatics, the gay love, the performances… stuff like that. Book 2 (right) – continues the tale. This may (or may not) explain why we felt obliged to piss on Jack’s head at the end of his birthday ‘ritual’ – or may not. Boys being boys, even if the rest of us are no safely into our 30’s!

Oh well, this little blog serves not only to promote three books, but to offer ‘in theme’ pictures for guys to enjoy, so here goes. Some more headstands (yoga style) and handstands:

Traditional acrobatic gymnastics…Buster and Ashley 2

And the other stuff we enjoy – getting sweaty…

…success on the weights…

And not forgetting just being gay guys in love with one another…

Cover 3 ThumbWe’ve had a few adventures along the way, too: some we would have preferred not to have! But basically, it has been a great time of touring performance and fun with all the fitness stuff, although we’re settling down a bit now, more into coaching, consistent with our advancing years!

A few more random pix for fitness inspiration, then:

And, after that last circus picture, let’s finish with another performance: the ultimate headstand. We don’t do this!!

Not even Jack or Ethan…

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
