Your Body, Your Choice

This gentlemen is evidently happy to smile for the camera and to post himself on the internet (that’s an assumption, but I think the correct one, and thanks to Mica Shultz for drawing him to our attention)…

Others might take the view that his computer is better maintained than he is. Of course, there may be medical reasons, or just plain neglect, lack of interest…

A majority of guys are probably fairly indifferent to maintenance of their own bodies, but wouldn’t allow things to go quite that far. A sporty minority, some motivated by a desire for a healthy and long life, some by a desire to perfect some specific sporting skills, and some in pursuit of ever-larger muscles, put considerable physical efforts into getting what they want. I don’t particularly endorse bodybuilding just for the sake of it (and the posing and spray-on ochre tan than seems to go with every competition) but, my goodness, I do enjoy my own weight training. ‘Mum, am I ripped?’ seems to be the cry of many growing lads these days, and such features are most easily attained if you make a real efforts from mid-teens onwards – not too soon, because you can inhibit normal growth in the very young unless very carefully supervised.

So that’s where Dave and I, and my other active acrobatic colleagues, are coming from. Sensible muscle training, maintaining of flexibility, bodies that can work for us…

And once you’ve ‘got it’ in your youth, keeping it up into later years really isn’t so difficult. Time spent in a weights gym is never wasted (and, anyway, I did recently see a tee-shirt with the slogan ‘Time wasted is time well spent…’):

…and why not indulge in a little self-appreciation?…

Sharing your success with like-minded friends is the perfect motivator:

I’m often asked why we don’t ‘expose’ our own bodies more on this blog. Well, the reasons are explained in these three books (especially the last one):

Loving the Boy: ISBN 978-1-907732-30-0

The Power of Love: ISBN 978-1-907732-41-6

Against All Odds: ISBN 978-1-908645-35-7

We are on here (oh yes!) but I leave you to do the detective work. Others, however, have built bodies with the express purpose of showing them off. Here I reference a UK guy I’ve talked with who has an amazingly ripped body and calls himself ‘Ripped Guy Stephen’:

There’s a link to his site, where there are short videos (free) and longer ones (subscribe), on the bottom right of this page and, anyway, the site URL is written on his picture. Stephen enjoys his body and loves training and deserves what he has achieved there. He should also show us his back more often: look at the lats… I wonder what he uses that fantastic body for… Not so keen on his motor-bike addiction though – the Isle of Man TT race is one of the most deadly in the world… take care, mate!

I guess the message here is ‘control the carbs’, find a like-minded friend and get stuck in! Here’s some more inspiration for you…

OK guys, your choice. Mr Big at the head of this post, or him?

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
