‘A Good Slide’ into 2015 – Literally!

‘A good slide’ – ein Gute Rutsch – is how our German-speaking friends do ‘Happy New Year’. I’m almost ashamed to tell you how we shall be greeting 2015. As Dave and I both have parents here (and obviously Dave’s brother Pete is similarly afflicted) – and because we have my oldest friend Colin and his family here – we shall be toasting the new year at midnight in the house. Then, Colin’s lot and the sets of parents will go to their beds, along with our kids Leo and Jaymee, whilst Dave and I, Pete and Ivo and the two girls will be sneaking down to Chad’s private gym. He has ‘entertainment’ planned from 1am until dawn.

I’ve written about the sort of activities that Chad’s personally selected fitness freaks get up to in the books:

Loving the Boy: ISBN 978-1-907732-30-0

The Power of Love: ISBN 978-1-907732-41-6

Against All Odds: ISBN 978-1-908645-35-7

…but enough of that for tonight! Suffice to say that the gym clientele is predominantly gay, and there’ll be random wrestling bouts to start with – naked and oiled. That heady mix of oil and sweat – pictured here (with the shorts on)…

…but ‘yeah’! After an hour or so, with everyone piling on top of one another amid gallons of oil, there’ll be an impromptu ‘pyramid’ – everyone trying to stay on top but, inevitably, sliding down, oily skin against oily skin…

We’re all still little kids at heart, I think. Then clean-up time, or at least a bit of a clean up, so that guys can do their own thing (and, yes, our two lesbian girls and mums of our kids are ‘honorary boys’ and will be in the thick of things). Eight of our ten Tuan Jie dudes will be there (two wrestlers joining us from Lexington, and Zach and Gary ‘on site’ in their penthouse anyway), and that means that we shall re-affirm our gay fellowship ‘vows’, which means no penetrative sex outside the group but freely sharing within it – which we shall then proceed to do. No doubt. And then, after that, on to Chad’s challenges. Hit the weights, every which way, plus his specific targets – things like 100 situps, 1000 pull-ups… should keep us going until dawn and, of course, everyone getting VERY sweaty…

sweaty workout!

I can tell you that, by the time dawn breaks, we are going to be absolutely wrecked!

Far worse than that!

But it gets worse. On New Year’s Day morning, by tradition, any remaining guys in the gym are obliged to cover their modesty whilst invited family members with appropriate fitness ambitions arrive to use the apparatus while Chad checks them out as future members. Which means our gym fit Colin and Tash will be bringing their kids, along with my Leo, Dave’s Jaymee, their friends Chris and Ryan… and we have to try and stay awake! To be fair, the boys already have access anyway on selected weekday afternoons, but New Year’s Day really has become ‘open house’, so we need to stay there to supervise!

And I think that’s going to be kind of hard to do…

With luck we’ll make it through New Year’s Day to an early bedtime. Don’t expect a new post tomorrow!!And, after that, our visitors will be dispersing over the next few days, and we’ll be hard at work planning new gymnastics coaching plans for the term which commences next Monday. And I have a whole heap of that to do because of being away with the circus for so long – my turn to carry the load!

In fact, just thinking about it now makes be tired, and “none of the above” has happened yet!

So the rest of today’s post is a totally random selection of pictures to keep you happy until we meet again in 2015. May we all wish you everything that you wish yourself for 2015. Thanks for being part of this blog and (where it applies) for supporting the blog by reading the books. It is much appreciated.

So, stay happy, love your partner…

…and, remember, when it comes to resolutions, to put your personal fitness improvement at the top of the agenda. Remember: if you wish upon a star…

…miracles can happen!

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
