A Window on Our World

I’ll start today with an extraordinary picture which really deserves a post all of its own!

I just love the way that the guy’s chest and face come into clear focus through the ‘window’ he makes with his hands. Well, it’s inspired the title for this post anyway!

‘Our world’ is a mixture of gay love, a freaky addiction to fitness and acrobatics in particular, and a tendency to shed our clothes when we’re training together privately (which includes wrestling and stuff). And we tend to slop around in the house in just shorts or underwear, because its comfortable. Barefoot, naturally.

We enjoy open-water swimming, pretty much year round…

A bit of your ‘actual art’ there, from 1926!

Did I mention wrestling? Play-fighting, at least…

unerwater wrestling!

Of course, where anyone else is likely to see us, we do need at least to wear shorts!

Yeah, it can be cold…

thats cold

Naturally, we enjoy the beach (when we can get to one)…

take the strain

What else could I say about water? Well, we do have a rather ‘macho’ cold hose out the back of our training cabin for ‘showers’ – year round, of course.

Now then: what’s wrong with this picture?

The answer, as far as we are concerned, is ‘nothing!’. Four guys, fit bodies, no doubt made clean and fresh before entering their gym, ready for some sweaty exercise and entirely cool with their bodies. No embarrassment to be naked with the other guys – in other words, for them, quite ‘normal’. And so it is with our friends, at least in the two ‘private’ gyms we inhabit. We simply find clothing inhibiting in such an environment.

Some ‘public’ gyms even make a huge fuss about guys just training shirtless…

…let alone daring to place their sweaty bodies directly on to a bench or seat on the resistance machines! Fair enough, not everyone wants to get covered in someone else’s sweat, but with sports like wrestling that’s kind of hard to avoid, so we take the view that, so long as we start clean and fresh, sharing the sweat generated in training is fair game!

sweat and speedos

tumblr_n8ndg4XM171rrt383o3_250Itumblr_n8ndg4XM171rrt383o2_250f you’re gay, of course, wanting to get up close and comfortable with a like-minded mate is part of nature’s deal for you. And cleaning up after your workout can be shared too!

If the sexual aspect of two guys getting together is not for you…

…even though the fitness aspects are, the camaraderie of the gym and the weight room could surely inspire you a bit?

For us, it’s not about trying to be better than the other guys, but to make progress (from wherever you are starting from) and to give (and receive) support and encouragement. Even in your basement or garage!

In response to some recent enquiries and comments, I’ll direct you to what we might call the ‘source material’ for our chosen lifestyle: three linked books covering all of this stuff, in the form of all the gay and acrobatic stuff woven into what turned out to be something of an adventure story. e-versions are available, and clicking on the covers here leads to the printed versions:

Cover1 Thumb Cover 3 ThumbCover2 ThumbEnjoy improving your body, and using it, in whatever way works for you! You are never too old (one follower here is a 78-yo bodybuilding champion!)… but if you have had three heart attacks, maybe you should consult your doctor first! And, even if his computer says ‘no’, you can still enjoy watching the others improving their physiques…

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
