Shedding Some Light (and Some Darkness!)

This post is ‘a game of two halves’, as British soccer commentators like to put it. Firstly, let us enjoy some superbly lit fitness pictures, celebrating both the models and the photographers who have created the images. I’ll keep the ‘dark’ bit for later…

Those last two are interesting because the photographer has the subject holding the light…

And now, perhaps, we’ll stray a little towards the ‘dark side’…

Hmmm. Almost there… in the ‘best possible taste’, of course…

In the previous post I spent time praising the virtuous physical endeavours of my son Leo, Dave’s daughter Jaymee and their circle of equally straight fitness friends. If, however, we go back to the first of my books, Loving the Boy [see end of this post], there is a Chapter headed ‘Meeting the Queen’. That’s ‘Queen’ as in ‘effeminate gay person’, namely a guy called Cedric who was rolling in money, had a huge mansion, and hosted regular soirees for his gay and lesbian friends at which certain ‘entertainments’ were provided. Ahem. Well, suffice to say here that this was our first venture in being paid to be nude waiters, and later  in the evening our acrobatic and wrestling entertainment was similarly displayed… and, after a whole heap of generous tipping, I have to confess that I wrestled my great friend Gary in the final bout, he lost, and submitted in public to the forfeit chosen by the audience, which was pretty hyper by then (as we were, to be fair)… oh, you can finish that bit for yourselves (or, better, read the books!). It was also at that evening that we met for the first time our dear friends Leon and Dane from Lexington KY and, as they were wrestlers anyway, as well as being two of the invited guests, they were on the mats with us at the end…

Cedric died about 18 months ago, leaving his substantial property to a group of trustees as a retreat for gay/lesbian folks, and the trustees are re-starting those entertainments. They have permanent nude waiters now – four gay black guys in their early twenties – but we are being called back in in a week or so to give our latest show (acrobatics, the new broken-glass tank, beds of nails etc, some wrestling au naturel) and, I hesitate to admit here, four of us are asked to be part of the table decoration. Someone had the bright idea of covering us in slices of ham and vol-au-vents, maybe crackers between our toes, I don’t know exactly. I have an intense feeling that the guests won’t lose too much time in, erm, interfering with us a bit but, as all eight available Tuan Jie are going (the other two, Ethan and Jack, are in nightly shows in Toronto at the moment), our ‘interests’ can be ‘policed’ by the other four I guess. All I can say to justify this sort of thing is that the meal and “cabaret” are a private function, the pay is huge and the tips equally so (we may get naked but never without a bandana or sweatband to tuck the crisp bills into…).

Ahem. Well, I said this was the dark side. Once bitten, I suppose we are flattered that we are still considered ‘visual’ enough at the ripe old age of 30+. And, for the avoidance of doubt, absolutely no kids present! Ours will be home, tucked up in bed in the care of their mums who are, however, booked for their fire and body-burning act on another occasion.

So, we keep on training flexibility…

…and the rest… is this how you train to be a table decoration…?

…or maybe this?

…as far as I know, we just have to lie there amidst the buffet. Probably face up, though. Mental note – like divers and spacemen – remember to have a pee first!

What I can be sure of is that the eight of us, after, will share some very important private ‘chill-out’ time. Watch this space!

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
