It Pays To be Fit…

3500058324_07fb1dc2e6One of the aims of this blog is promote fitness in guys of all ages. I found out that this can pay off in unexpected ways. Currently, you can get free rides on the Mexico City subway system… if you can do ten squats! Honestly! And that’s a pretty snazzy station, don’t you think, with the train coming out of a tube in mid-air? But I understand that the system gets unbelievably crowded, and the thought of the massive lines outside the station whilst every overweight but poor Mexican tries for the ten has certainly brought a smile to our faces! The government decided that their citizens were well overweight and thought this might be a way to persuade them. Maybe they should just have said … ‘Don’t take the subway… WALK!!’

I Cover 3 Thumbdon’t think that we’ll be giving it a try. My close friends and I have a big issue with Mexico, especially Zach. All becomes clear in that book (click on the cover) which is the last of three describing our gay/acrobatic/circus misadventures. And anyway, the Mexico City subway is rife with crime – pickpockets and worse, especially when ‘Gringos’ are spotted. The other two book covers appear below!

If the squats are unsuccessful, I suppose that the Mexican citizens could try inverted leg raises from some of that metalwork at that station…

…or maybe try for the ‘iron cross’…

…maybe not. I think that requires a wee bit more strength than in your average overweight Mexican…

(with apologies to any not overweight Mexicans who may read this – I am sure you’ll be the fit ones anyway, and I’m only repeating what your government released to the world’s press!)

…they do say, when you look like being in a hole, stop digging. Let’s just share a new crop of fitness pictures!

Here’s a great pic of Brit diver Tom Daley working out in the gym – makes a change from seeing him all wet with pool water – this time it’s sweat…

That’s a nice one for the abs – and clearly works for him! Turning to the arms and shoulders now:

Now let’s put those muscles to good use and have some fun:

Ah, the Circus Warehouse. Yes. here’s another…

Pole dancing, anyone?

Anyone else out there want to offer something free in exchange for us showing off what we love to do anyway? We almost never use public transport here in TN, but if we could get free rides by, say, doing a handstand… we might even give it a go!

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
