Misty-Eyed Mum

So we’re in Arkansas and we’ve done our first shows. My 13yo son Leo and Dave’s daughter Jaymee have made their first circus performances and, I’m proud to say, did brilliantly. They’ve already done TV and several local shows, so we were pretty confident! This time, Leo’s best friend Chris also made his first-ever professional debut, in support to both them and then to our full ‘adult’ group as well – and did some pretty neat balancing in his own right, too. Yes, we could see faults, but I doubt that any average person in the audiences would have noticed anything – to most of those people, it is pretty amazing that anyone can even do a basic handstand! And just show him a patch of broken glass or a bed of nails, and he’s straight in there…

We didn’t tell any of them, but Chris’s family made a huge road trip to see him in his first show – dad Steve (who trains weights with us) and his wife, and Chris’s 18yo bodybuilder brother Billy. They sat anonymously in the audience watching Chris living his dream alongside his best friend… his mum had tears running down her face… and then, in the final applause for Chris’s final appearance in the show, they stood up… you should have seen Chris’s face when he spotted them! A magic day for them all.

I don’t post pictures of the kids, so you’ll have to make do instead with the usual ‘grown-up’ athletes training and doing their thing…

And, finally, make sure you have fun as well… and notice something interesting about this group?

another uniform tat

Just as there are eleven people in the world who share a rather special small tattoo on their lower back (see the books and, indeed, their covers!) – ten of whom have stayed together to form a special sharing group) – these four guys share a common Chinese tattoo on their abs, all identical and in the same position!! Maybe it’s the mark of their team – whatever it is, possibly a swim group – I have no idea. If anyone out their recognises this group, or their tattoo and its meaning, do please let us know, either by a comment or a message to me on gymacrobat@gmail.com !

Check out the covers – and then the books in either print or e-form – now! Warning – they’re a bit ‘gay’, but then, so are we. And, just for the avoidance of doubt, yes we do have kids, and yes, they areas  straight as they come…

About tonycavanagh

Born Northampton UK; school Oxford UK and Oak Ridge Tennessee, where I met my wonderful partner Dave, also from UK. Oak Ridge is our main training base for acrobatics and circus stuff, but we also established a base in Wales (UK) to serve us when we are working in Europe. Our 'story', of finding gay love, learning the acrobatics trade and then of how we got shot at during our show (and worse was to follow - just to prove that the risks of being an acrobat are not always the most obvious ones!) are now available in my three books 'Loving the Boy', 'The Power of Love' and 'Against All Odds'. Links available on most blog posts. Actually, waiting for the imminent arrival of the first printed copies was far scarier than anything we do in performance. A fourth book - not about us but exploring the sadness of a gay Native American boy denied his true identity - is currently with an agent for evaluation. watch for 'Let The Future Find Me' in due time. And now to book five... another boy, another quest... seems its always boys...
